Election Integrity

My
Story
My
Proposals
I've worked elections as an appointed and elected official in two states, for over 15 years. Whether we use in-person or mailing, computer or paper, we rely on the people running the system to secure our constitutional rights. And I see that they do. Douglas County lets you see where your ballot goes, and how it is processed. I know the process, and have seen duplicate ballots and mismatched signatures rejected.

The greater concern for me is in the voter registrations and the changes that the Elections Offices cannot control. I've seen duplicate registrations when my neighbors move away or decease -- because the Secretary of State only processes intakes automatically. We need to require the Secretary of State to process the outgoing voters in the same way, on the same timetable.

I've also seen the scramble when a jurisdictional boundary change isn't properly communicated to the Elections Office. Should it be up to the candidate's committee to verify that a year-old boundary change was sent in? I'm proud to have found an error in a 2025 local race, and I thank our great Clerk Davis for developing a solution before ballots were mailed to ensure that the people got the correct ballots. This was a basic governmental function where oversight failed - what if a volunteer never double checked? What about the elections in the prior year? I want to see a statewide solution -- every local government that wants to coordinate an election must certify their boundaries and electorate well in advance of voting on the ballot measure.
